Christine Ortiz is a first-generation Mexican American working with digital and analog photographic processes to create works that reflect their experience with obsessive thoughts. They use a mix of Polaroid, digital cameras, and scanners to create their images with current pieces on view in the San Francisco International Airport Museum. Ortiz is studying under Aspen Mays and will receive their BFA from California College of the Arts in 2027.

My practice explores the uncontrollable nature of photochemistry reactions with organic material through manipulation. I use photography as a tool to help process my life experiences through the lens of obsessive thoughts. I work with a variety of different cameras, chemicals, and instruments such as  scissors, blades, and screws to damage my images to relate to the physical sensations of discomfort I feel unsettled in my own body.
